Central City Pool

This property presented an opportunity to rework and update an existing pool surrounds in a tight area. Modernising and lifting the existing landscape and gardens by expanding the useable area around the pool.

We were engaged by the client on recommendation from Erin Farrow landscapes to implement the project and deliver a quality outcome within a reasonable budget. Challenge accepted!

The Challenge

During the initial phase of works we discovered a council stormwater pipe on the property which we had to work around to ensure council regulations were adhered to. A tight space and working area with existing structures provided constraints in terms of layout and what was possible, while aiming to maximise the useable space as much as possible, and fit in a spa pool!

The goal was to modernise the area, maximise space and fit within a desired budget.

The Solution

A number of solutions were developed on site to resolve the design and budget in a meaningful way.

An old timber retaining wall was retained in front of, leaving the existing in place and cutting the top down to bury it. The design called for a modern look to match the style of the house and we achieved this in a low cost way through a timber retaining wall, clad in cement board with a plaster and paint finish to give a more solid look and tie in with the existing block walls.

The existing pool was modernised by removing the old coping tiles and deck surrounds. Updating the look with a clean, coloured concrete finish and 'coping free' edge. Decorative concrete cuts were added to give a 'large' paver look.

A 'hidden' drain system was also installed to keep the clean finished look of the concrete without breaking it up with slot drains (which were required to capture any overflow from the pool). This was tied into the decorative cuts and hidden under the concrete itself. A smart and innovative solution.

The Result

A combination of a well thought out design, problem solved and executed to a high standard by the team!
